America the Free

The concept was the notion of freedom during the period of 1860-1900. For me when I think on this time period the “romantic, wild, west” is what comes to mind and not the short comings and failures of the reconstruction. In the West, single, white men were free to rome the prairie, mountains and country side to do as they pleased. The law was a superficial construct which was not entirely reliable. This male figure was a prominent figure which has inspired decades upon decades of source material as entertainment to the masses. However the notion of freedom on the east side of the Mississippi was very different. Black men and women for the first time in American history were considered constitutionally “free.” But this freedom was very flawed.
